Winter Bla's in a Sailboat.

Nothing much to write about. Still sitting in my boat each morning, drawing pictures, listening to my inspirational Podcasts from Pray-As-Y0u-Go. I am looking forward to this weekend, it's my 25th anniversary.....of a "guys" weekend I do every year with the same guys.
We rent any available cabin up North, eat the food our wives won't let us eat, and take guns to shoot unwanted gifts (it's better than regifting).
It's funny, every year we talk and dream about living in the north...."if only we could earn a living from a cabin". However, the technology to make a living from a sailboat could also be used to make a living from a cabin in the North.
I wonder what stops people from living a dream?

  1. "I wonder what stops people from living a dream?" That's a question we in the career development / employment advising fields so often ask about our clients. The frequent responses are often "family responsibilities, no time, no money, can't afford to take the risk".

Interestingly enough, it's the question we in the career and employment fields seldom ask ourselves. We're too busy helping others to 'apply' our knowledge and beliefs to ourselves even when we have successfully done so in the past.

Let me respond personally about what I have let hold me back at different times in my life. First of all, I spoke those "frequent responses" with sincerity. In my latest transition, the pain of not honouring my values finally pushed me to action. Two values were challenged at the core level: the quality of service I could offer clients and my need to apply my expertise to my life. Once I made the choice, the supports, the opportunities were right in front of me. It was the riskiest decision I have ever made. It continues to bring the most satisfying rewards daily.

Yet there are those people for whom the dream never existed or was extinguished so early that they can no longer retrieve it. This level of coaching is way beyond my area of expertise, so I refer to other professionals.

  2. I think the main barrier with dreams is FEAR. Dreams are unknown and humans are normally afraid of the unknown.
I think a new blog posting is needed to deal with fear.
